Quantum mechanics in finite dimensional Hilbert space
The quantum mechanical formalism for position and momentum of a particle in a one dimensional cyclic lattice is constructively developed. Some mathematical features characteristic of the finite dimensional Hilbert space are compared with the infinite dimensional case. The construction of an unbiased basis for state determination is discussed.
متن کاملQuantum Mechanics and 3N- Dimensional Space
I maintain that quantum mechanics is fundamentally about a system of N particles evolving in three-dimensional space, not the wave function evolving in 3N-dimensional space. 1. Introduction. What is quantum mechanics fundamentally about? I believe that quantum mechanics is fundamentally about particles: quantum mechanics describes the behavior of systems of particles evolving in three-dimension...
متن کاملGeometric Phase in Quaternionic Quantum Mechanics
Quaternion quantum mechanics is examined at the level of unbroken SU(2) gauge symmetry. A general quaternionic phase expression is derived from formal properties of the quaternion algebra. pacs 03.65.Bz, 03.65.Ca,11.15.Kc, 02.30.+g 1 Quaternion Quantum Mechanics Quantum mechanics defined over general algebras have been conjectured since 1934 [1]. In 1936 Birkoff and von Neumann noted that the p...
متن کاملExperimental Status of Quaternionic Quantum Mechanics
Analysis of the logical foundations of quantum mechanics indicates the possibility of constructing a theory using quaternionic Hilbert spaces. Whether this mathematical structure reflects reality is a matter for experiment to decide. We review the only direct search for quaternionic quantum mechanics yet carried out and outline a recent proposal by the present authors to look for quaternionic e...
متن کاملAlternative Descriptions in Quaternionic Quantum Mechanics
We characterize the quasianti-Hermitian quaternionic operators in QQM by means of their spectra; moreover, we state a necessary and sufficient condition for a set of quasianti-Hermitian quaternionic operators to be anti-Hermitian with respect to a uniquely defined positive scalar product in a infinite dimensional (right) quaternionic Hilbert space. According to such results we obtain two altern...
